Bio

Head coach of both Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis, Brian Smallwood is also director of Junior Tennis at Peak Performance Center in Broadview Heights. During his career, Brian was the tennis director at One Wellness for 16 years and a tennis professional at Cleveland Racquet Club as well as other tennis facilities in Northeastern Ohio. Brian also founded and served as the executive director for the Inner City Tennis Clinics in downtown Cleveland from 2009-2017. Brian has held office as vice president for USPTA Northeastern Ohio Section and has coached highly ranked juniors at USTA Northeastern Ohio District, Midwest Section and at national Levels. Brian was also the head coach for the 2004 Midwest Section Junior Team Tennis Champions as well as four teams who were finalists. From 2003-2018 Brian has personally trained 42 high school state qualifiers to the OHSAA Tournament, and from 1999-2017, he developed 55 collegiate players who play at Division I, II and III colleges, including 6 full ride scholarships to Division I schools. Brian was also the personal coach for the #1 ranked girl in the country from 2011-2013.

For the last three years Brian received Coach of the Year honors for the Chagrin Valley Conference. Brian also coached the team that finished runner-up in the OTCA State Team Tournament for the past two years. Brian was a member of the 2009 5.0 USTA National Qualifying team and has was also awarded the 2000 USPTA Rookie of the Year award. Brian has also received numerous awards for his work with the Inner City Tennis Clinics (ICTC), which include the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award from the NEOTA, the 2012 and 2016 USTA Midwest Section NJTL of The Year, the 2012 USTA Midwest Section Outstanding Performance of the Year by an Organization. He was also issued a proclamation by the City of Cleveland in 2012 for Outstanding Performance by an Organization.
